Antique Porcelain Plates from Plaue Schierholz, Germany, C. 1875. Two Plate

19th century
Description

This antique pair of uniquely shaped, hand-painted porcelain plates comes from Von Schierholz Porzellan Manufaktur Plaue, a distinguished German porcelain manufacturer. The plates are adorned with floral and gold patterns; one features a wide gilt edge, while the other does not. At the center, each plate showcases skillfully drawn mythological scenes inspired by the artworks of the renowned neoclassical artist Angelica Kauffmann (1741-1807), who was celebrated for her portraiture and historical paintings and was one of the first female members of the Royal Academy of Arts in London in 1768.

The plates bear the Schierholz company's mark on their square base, indicating their creation in 1875, with patterns numbered 29 and 125. The Schierholz porcelain factory, founded in 1817 in Plaue, Thuringia, Germany by Johann Karl Rudolf Heuäcker and Dr. Gottlob Ferdinand Heuacker, gained fame for its lithophanes and high-quality Dresden ware known for its Rococo, ornate style with lavish gilding and applied decorations.

Dimensions: width 16 cm, length 17 cm, height of the edge above the surface 4.3 cm. Condition: Some loss of gilding and paint, more significant on the plate featuring a dancing cupid, yet the pieces remain in excellent antique condition overall.

Please examine the accompanying photographs carefully as they form an integral part of this description. The item will be shipped with full tracking and insurance, with shipping costs covering labor, packaging, and postage.
