An exceptionally rare superb quality late 18th century (circa 1800) mahogany cutlery urn of large proportions with brass inlaid decoration. This large cutlery urn consists of a turned gilt brass ball finial to the top leading down to a mahogany cover of dome form with brass inlaid stringing, the cover lifting to reveal a stepped interior for the storage of cutlery or knives. The main section of rounded and tapered form, also of mahogany and brass inlaid stringing leading down to a brass diamond shaped escutcheon with brass plaque below with engraved armorial of a griffin holding a battle axe, this crest believed to be that of the Wills family, Landrake, Cornwall. To either side of the urn a brass ring and lion mask handle, the urn being supported by a mahogany shaped stem with brass inlaid stringing on square platform base terminating with four brass ball feet.
