This is a René Lalique Poissons bowl, dating from the early 20th century. Poissons is French for fish. It is one of Lalique''s most famous designs.
The bowl is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with a century of use.
The bowl is round measuring 20.8 cm (8.3 inches) in diameter at the circular rim. The bowl is moulded in opalescent glass and is decorated with ten sardine-like fish moulded into the outer surface. The bowl is 7.5 cm (3 inches) in height. There is a tiny firing crack to the rim dating from manufacture and a couple of 1 cm. long scratches to the outer surface by the tail of one fish. There are no chips, other cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. The bowl bears an etched ''R. LALIQUE FRANCE'' mark to the inside of the middle of the bowl.
It weighs in at 1,225 g. (~ 2 lb. 11 oz.).
