FINE 18thc PERIOD GEORGE III BOW-FRONT MAHOGANY SECRETAIRE BOOKCASE WRITING DESK
 
Brief Description:
 
On offer is a superb quality 18th-century George III Sheraton Period Figured Mahogany and Satinwood Inlaid Bow-Front Secretaire Bookcase.
 
The attractive and sturdy piece is fitted with a thumbnail moulded cornice, rising above a pair of satinwood inlaid astragal glazed display doors, revealing once opened a bank of 3 adjustable bookshelves.
 
The lower section stands on splayed feet and is fitted with a bank of four graduating drawers, all with a quality cock beading, the top drawer opening on brass arched hinges to reveal inside a truly spectacular quality fully-fitted secretaire writing desk, to include a green tooled baize writing skiver, 7 rosewood and satinwood inlaid working drawers with bone handles, 7 cabby holes (each with a decorative carved frieze) and an incredible 6 secret/concealed/hidden drawers!
 
As the images demonstrate, the piece is of a stunning rich aged mahogany patination.
 
It is further enhanced by retaining the original Georgian glass door panels, the original turned wooden handles, the original brass locks and hinges, and there is a working key supplied that locks the secretaire desk section.
 
To summarise, this is a superb quality piece and it is a very honest example.
