An outstanding quality and unusual French
bronze and spelter clock garniture
depicting two young men ,possibly courtiers,
in wonderfully decorated 16th century dress
engrossed in a game of chess, flanked by a
pair of similar holding a framework of three
candleholder each.
The black and gilt detailed spelter figures set
on bronze platforms over cast bases.
The 8 day movement French, the blue and gilt
enamelled face with Roman numerals flanked
by porcelain discs.
Possibly Huguenot influence as depicted by
the fleur de lys detail to the clock face and also
gilt '' H '' to the ends
The whole weighs very heavy. The candlesticks
have had some repairs. The movement fully serviced
