Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Queen Anne style originated in early eighteenth-century England, characterised by cabriole legs, pad feet, and subtle curves. During the 1920s and 1930s, modern manufacturers produced revival pieces that adapted these historic forms into lower occasional furniture, such as coffee tables and sofa tables.

Tables from this period were commonly constructed with walnut timber or walnut veneers applied over solid wood cores. Features included hinged drop-leaf mechanisms supported by wooden gate-legs or swing brackets, alongside turned stretchers and machine-shaped pad feet.

Authentic twentieth-century revival pieces display modern joinery techniques, uniform drawer construction or hinges, and lighter wood framing beneath surface veneers. Examining the undersides reveals standardized screw hardware and factory finishing marks typical of the interwar period.

Position the table centrally in front of a sofa or alongside an armchair, utilizing the hinged leaves to expand or collapse the surface area depending on functional needs. The warm timber tones pair effectively with neutral upholstery, linen fabrics, and brass accent pieces.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically to nourish the timber finish. Avoid placing liquid containers directly on the wood without coasters, and position the piece away from direct heat sources to prevent veneer lifting.
