Antique Porcelain Figurine of Dandy, Samson, France, Late 19th Century.

19th century
Description

This antique porcelain figurine, created by the renowned Samson porcelain factory of France in the late 19th century, depicts a finely dressed gentleman or "dandy" in elaborate attire. The figure is adorned in a burgundy mackintosh, a pink curved hat, and blue-buckled shoes, capturing the elegance and fashion of a bygone era. The figurine is beautifully glazed and showcases finely hand-painted polychrome overglaze details, adding vibrancy and depth to the piece. It stands gracefully on a Rococo-style round base, embellished with gold accents that enhance its opulence and artistic appeal. The craftsmanship of this figurine is remarkable, characterized by its intricate detailing and meticulous execution, particularly visible in the delicately sculpted face and fingers. Each component of the composition is rendered with precision, reflecting the high level of artistry associated with the Samson factory. The base bears a Samson-style mark, commonly used on replicas of German porcelain, and features the letter "R" on the back of the pedestal. The Samson porcelain factory, established by Edmé Samson in Paris in 1845, was known for its high-quality reproductions of historical and museum-grade ceramics. Samson has the expressed intention of making high-quality reproductions of ceramics on display in museums and in private collections. The factory specialized in creating faithful replicas of famous porcelain styles from Meissen, Chantilly, Chelsea, Derby, and even Chinese porcelain. Samson's reproductions were so skillfully made that they were often mistaken for originals, although the factory took care to mark its pieces clearly to avoid deception. Samson & Co. worked primarily with hard-paste porcelain, in contrast to the soft-paste porcelain often used in the originals they imitated. They frequently produced works in different sizes or with different color schemes to differentiate them from the originals. Despite being replicas, Samson pieces have become highly collectible in their own right, valued for their finely painted details and carefully modeled figures. But at a certain stage of development, copies of Samson became more valuable than the originals. Samson porcelain gained a reputation for its finely painted and carefully modeled porcelain figures that it holds for collectors today.

Dimensions: Height 20 cm, width 12 cm, depth 10 cm, weight 572 grams.

Condition: The figurine is in perfect condition, with only minor rubbing on the gold accents of the base. The glaze remains in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, or restoration, and retains a high gloss finish, which may cause some glare in photographs.

Please review the accompanying photographs carefully, as they are an integral part of this description. The item will be shipped with full tracking and insurance. Note that shipping costs include labor, packaging, and postage.
