Antique Georgian Solid Silver Teapot 'Melon' Shape Acanthus Design - Barnard 1835

18th century
Description

We are delighted to offer this magnificent Georgian solid silver teapot made in London 1835 with marks of Edward, Edward Junior, John & William Barnard.

As expected from the Barnards', this teapot has been meticulously crafted and ornately decorated in the most exquisite manner. The teapot features an iconic melon-shaped design which has been additionally embellished with hand-chased acanthus motifs.

The top lid matches the melon-shaped body with a floral finial on top. The foot presents additional decorations of scrolled foliage which are a testament to its "no-cost cut" design and displays the intricacy of the craftsmanship of this era.

Its spout and handles are equally regal extending outwards with further acanthus leaf decorations which complete the overall look and contribute to a three-dimensional design. Such skilful silver artistry makes for a piece that would otherwise be a utilitarian piece, a delightful article to view from all angles.

As a single teapot, it may just be the perfect centrepiece or addition to a service to enjoy an opulent afternoon tea by yourself or with guests in an artistic and historically elegant setting. Also serving as a versatile piece of interior decor it may be perfect amongst other fine antiques or as a standalone highlighting piece in a contemporary setting. With a touch of creativity, we imagine this may just be the perfect piece to elevate the ambience of your interior. Overall a very impressive and delightful teapot with some of the finest ornate Georgian craftsmanship on display.

The teapot is hallmarked with full English marks on the base.
