Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Windsor chair is characterised by a solid wooden seat into which the chair legs and back uprights are directly socketed, rather than using continuous back posts. Originating in 18th-century England, these chairs feature bentwood hoops, vertical spindles, and turned legs.

Windsor chairs were typically constructed using a combination of regional native hardwoods. Seats were carved from solid elm due to its cross-grained strength, while steam-bent elements like hoops and armbows were crafted from yew or ash, and legs were turned from beech or oak.

Authentic 19th-century examples display hand-carved saddle seats, wedge-anchored mortise and tenon joints visible on top of the seat, and natural wear patterns on the front stretcher and armrests. The timber often shows subtle variations in hand-tooled construction and natural patination.

A Windsor chair functions effectively as a single accent piece in a hallway, bedroom corner, or desk space, contrasting well against contemporary minimalist backdrop finishes. It can also be mixed with modern dining tables to create an eclectic dining arrangement.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and central heating vents to prevent cracking or joint loosening. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year using a soft cloth to preserve the original patina and guard against drying.
