Gillers Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the Before 1700 period.

Longquan celadon is highly prized for its beauty and craftsmanship. The glaze, made from porcelain clay containing iron, turns a green color when fired; creating a finish that is both visually striking and smooth to the touch. The gourd shape, a popular form during the Song dynasty, holds significant cultural symbolism in China, representing longevity and good fortune.

This vase, crafted with a compressed globular lower bulb rising from a recessed base to a tall upper bulb, is covered overall in a celadon-green glaze, with the unglazed foot rim revealing the brown body beneath. Such pieces were often used as incense burners in religious rituals and ceremonies and served as decorative objects in homes and temples. The condition of the bottom indicates that the vase was made undoubtedly during the Song dynasty - 10-13th centuries.
