C19th mahogany naval or military campaign pedestal desk .
Constructed in 3 parts for ease of movement and transportation , having a long drawer to the top section probably for maps and charts , each pedestal fitted with 3 drawers . All drawers fitted with inset rectangular plate brass handles , all bearing the ‘broad arrow’ stamp of ‘The War Department’ . All drawers fitted with brass locks and escutcheons, keys lacking.
The top fitted with its original inset black oil-cloth writing surface , and having an unusual detachable and brass-hinged folding three-quarter mahogany gallery upstand .
Each pedestal raised on shaped turned feet and having polished panel backs .
In excellent original condition, with some marks, wear and dents commensurate with age , use and purpose.
A desk of practical scale and proportions , having an evocative history and appeal .
Has been sympathetically cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
