A rare example of a 19thc tobacconist press and mould, that would have been used in his shop to press the tobacco, the advantage of pressing pipe tobacco for hours or days can help different flavours blend and create a manageable ''brick'' that can be aged, packaged, or flake cut into a useful size for customers to purchase...it has the makers mark impressed onto the top edge of the mould P+ .... in very good condition with a fine colour and patina.
English. C1860-80. Provenance: Desborough collection.
