Exquisite Victorian Silver Pill Box by Saunders & Shepherd, Birmingham 1890

Description

This charming solid silver trinket box bears the mark of the sought-after silversmiths Saunders & Shepherd.and is dated Birmingham 1890. Of rectangular form, the domed cover and sides profusely embossed with foliate designs on a finely textured background. . The pull-off lid opening to reveal the original rich gilt interior. Both lid and base with decorative pinched borders.

Hallmarks:

CS*FS for Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders & James Francis Hollings Shepherd.

Birmingham Assay Mark.

Lion Passant.

Date letter "P" for 1890.

Duty Mark.

Condition:

Very good.

Dimensions:

Length: 4.5cm / 1.6 inches.
