The single-plank oak top opens on its original strap hinges and hasp, to reveal a clean and dry copper lined interior. The front of the box is decorated with the original tulip floral carvings on a punch-work background and incorporates a steel striking plate, which houses behind it, a working lock (with key). The oak bible box on stand interior also retains its original floor, sides and backboards. The 17th century oak box sits on a Victorian stand, which houses a single oak lined working drawer, decorated finely carved detail along the moulded front, above pretty bobbin-turned legs below, united by oak bar stretchers, terminating on small bun feet. The stand has been constructed in the traditional method with mortice and tenon pegged joints.
