We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian library chairs are low-seated armchairs designed during the nineteenth century specifically for comfortable reading in studies or libraries. They commonly feature solid hardwood frames, deep buttoned or smooth velvet upholstery, turned legs, and brass castors for mobility.

Framing was predominantly constructed from solid oak, mahogany, or walnut, utilizing traditional mortise and tenon joinery. Interior padding frequently consisted of horsehair and coiled steel springs, while exterior upholstery featured heavy velvets, damasks, or hide.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved decorative motifs, such as lion heads or acanthus leaves, showing slight asymmetrical variations from hand-tooling. Look for stamped brass castors, natural timber oxidation beneath the seat frame, and hand-cut joinery.

Place a pair alongside a minimalist side table to create a focused conversation area in a living room or study. Pairing heavy carved oak with modern lighting and neutral walls balances the visual weight of period furniture.

Vacuum velvet upholstery regularly using a soft brush attachment to prevent dust settling into the pile. Apply natural beeswax to the carved oak frame annually to preserve the timber finish, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners.
