A very fine and impressive antique Victorian 15ct yellow gold locket brooch in Etruscan Revival style, set with seven 0.6ct Old European-cut round diamonds of estimated H/I colour and VS2 clarity. The brooch comes complete with an antique leather, satin and velvet fitted case.
Of oval shape, centred with a cluster flowerhead of 6 diamonds surrounding a larger one. The border is decorated in geometric style with alternating applied panels and ball beads. The front has a 3-level stepped design that is decorated with fine filigree cannetille rope-work and gold granulation technique that was popular in Belle Epoque jewellery.
The reverse is fitted with a locket compartment with glazed aperture. The oval glass panel comes off to reveal a sizeable space where a lock of hair, a photo or some other memento of a loved one may be displayed.
The pin has a tube hinge and a hand-made safety catch which dates this brooch to c. 1890''s. There''s also a small hook at the top of the brooch where a safety chain can be attached.
Very fine quality diamonds with high colour grade and high clarity that look wonderful in daylight, but even more fiery and sparkling in artificial light. You can see the videos of this brooch in the links below.
