Applecross Antiques has dated this French Quimper Ceramic Sabot to the 19th Century.
Interestingly, the word "sabotage" derives from the practice of dissatisfied French workers throwing their heavy wooden clogs or sabots into their machinery as a form of protest. Hence was coined the term "sabotage ...to disrupt something though one's shoes". Signed in underglaze black HB {Interlaced }, under the toe of the piece.
