His immense early talent secured him a patron who funded his studies in Europe. He had huge success with his vast landscapes and exhibited at the Royal Academy. He married fellow artist Eliza Fox and lived for a while in Italy, capturing the beauty of landscapes there. Sadly, he died in his early thirties of consumption, brought on by the intensity of his work.
