A sweet antique Victorian forget me not locket fashioned in smooth 15ct yellow gold. A beautiful high-relief spray stands out from the centre, consisting of curled ivy leaves and a forget me not with a pink ruby in the centre, surrounded by five turquoise petals.
Turquoise has long been associated with the Forget me not due to their similar sky-blue colouring. In the 19th Century it was given as a token of eternal love and remembrance and was often paired with ivy leaves which similarly represented an unbreakable bond, as in the Victorian rhyme “Close clings the ivy to the tree, so in my heart I cling to thee”.
It’s a beautiful antique treasure with a lovely sentiment attached. It dates to the late 19th Century and is complete with rims and windows within ready to house two beloved photographs or a lock of hair.
