A beautiful Royal Worcester Majolica planter showcasing fine artistry, finished with a striking turquoise glaze. The planter features a gold-trimmed top edge, with the lower section modeled and decorated with hand-painted, semi-wilted curly ivy stems, surrounded by leaves and branches. The piece is set on a wood-like pedestal. The predominant colors are turquoise, green, and brown. The Royal Worcester mark on the octagonal base includes an impressed rosette of four ‘W’s surrounding a ‘crescent’ and topped by a crown.
Royal Worcester porcelain was founded in Worcester, England, in 1751. By 1755, the company was producing the finest English blue and white porcelain available. While the primary focus of Royal Worcester was porcelain and Parian wares, by 1789, Worcester received a royal warrant. Much of Royal Worcester''s majolica is ornamental or figural, though some functional wares, such as pitchers and tea sets, are also known.
The condition of the planter is excellent for its age. There are two hairline cracks on the base, likely due to the manufacturing process, and a few small chips on the base and on the leaves, along with some gilt loss on the upper rim. There are no other chips, cracks, or obvious signs of damage or restoration.
