Philip Carrol Antiques has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
Painted to the exterior, with a continuous band of floral scroll, in underglaze blue, the flowers and leaves, in red, green, yellow, and turquoise enamels, heightened with gilding, above a lappet border.
Set upon a low footrim, painted in underglaze blue, with karakusa scroll.
As you will notice from the images, the bowl is of slightly irregular form, as a result of the firing.
Green enamelled ‘clove’ mark to the underside.
Diameter – 20.5 cm, 8 1/8”.
Height – 10 cm, 3 7/8”.
Condition – Firing fault to the rim, kintsugi repair to a small chip on the inside of the footrim. Please see images for detail. Slight wear to the enamels and glaze, commensurate with the age of the bowl.
