I came across this fine English 1830s example whilst walking through an antique fair. I have encountered a few on my travels but this one needed a closer investigation. What made me decide to stop and purchase it? It was a culmination of things, that when combined, elevated this particular convex mirror to a rarely seen level. It is a large and impressive mirror of great colour and originality. After two hundred years of wonderful neglect, it has acquired an attractive patina to its gilded surface. As you can see from the images, there are minor historical condition issues but they pale in significance when compared with its overall decorative appeal. I find convex mirrors add a focal point to an interior and regularly draw admiration and interest from visitors. The listed depth is for the main gilded circular frame, however, the outstretched eagle''s wings are 20 cm deep.
