Massive 19thc Johnny Souter Stoneware Jug

Description

A perfect massive large size "johnny souter" jug in stoneware ,complete with its original cork.

Dating from the 19th century and probably made by one of the many scottish potteries of the day.

Johnny was immortalised by burns in his world famous poem "tam o shanter" he was a shoemaker in kirkosland, south ayrshire died in 1806

It measures a massive 28cms h 23cms d and 24cms d.

In superb untouched perfect condition .we are dating as around 1850 but could well be earlier.
