A fabulous antique Art Nouveau pendant decorated with sparkling white, and emerald-green paste stones. A large square step-cut paste sits in the centre surrounded by scrolled, metalwork around the outside and finished with a lustrous cultured pearl dropper at the bottom.
Paste is a heavy, transparent flint glass that has been used since ancient times to simulate the beauty of gemstones. The art of cutting paste takes expert craftsmanship and the highest quality stones are often able to replicate the cut, colour and sparkle of natural gems to near perfection.
The piece is crafted in sterling silver with a 9ct gold back. It dates to the early 1900s and has remained in excellent condition.
