Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Regency period in the early 19th century, decorative papier-mache items gained immense popularity in Britain. Trays decorated with orientalist and Chinoiserie motifs were frequently mounted on custom wooden stands to function as functional accent and tea tables.

Antique papier-mache was produced by compressing sheets of paper saturated with glue and paste into moulds under high pressure. Once dried, the material was baked, stove-lacquered, polished to a smooth finish, and decorated with gilding or hand-painted artwork.

Authentic 19th-century papier-mache pieces typically exhibit dense construction with significant physical weight, fine hand-painted or hand-gilded detail, and natural surface crazing in the lacquer. Stands made later to fit the trays often display Victorian or Edwardian turning techniques.

Place a Chinoiserie tray table alongside contemporary upholstered furniture to create visual contrast. The rich red and gold tones complement neutral room schemes, serving effectively as a coffee table or end table.

Keep papier-mache furniture away from direct sunlight, dampness, and heat sources, as moisture and thermal shifts cause lacquer to crack or lift. Clean gently with a soft dry microfibre cloth and avoid water, liquid polishes, or harsh solvents.
