Gillers Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1910s.
It rests on a classic Rococo base and bears the blue underglaze mark of the Sitzendorf company.

Sitzendorf porcelain is one of Germany's oldest and most treasured porcelain marks. Founded by Wilhelm Liebmann in 1850, Sitzendorf gained worldwide renown for its finely detailed porcelain figurines and sculptures. Although the factory began working with porcelain in 1850, the actual manufacture of figurines started in 1884 in the town of Sitzendorf, Thuringia, East Germany. Despite an explosion in 1858 that demolished most of the manufactory, it reopened and continued to operate until World War II.

Genuine Sitzendorf porcelain can be identified by two key marks: a blue crown over the letter "S" with a double cross slash mark, and two crossed lines, both in deep blue. These marks appear on all items from the factory. Sitzendorf porcelain represents the Dresden style, and pieces made before 1920 are particularly valuable to collectors.
