A Framed Hand Painted Coat of Arms Coach Panel Circa 1900

1900 - 1920
Description

A stunning Framed Hand-Painted Coat of Arms Coach Panel from circa 1900. The piece is beautifully executed with meticulous attention to detail, showcasing the craftsmanship of a skilled artist. The panel features a gentle curve, typical of coach doors from that era.

Traditionally the coat of arms were made up of several components being mainly the: Shield: The central part of the coat of arms, Helmet: Often placed above the shield, Mantling: Decorative drapery tied to the helmet above the shield, Crest: A component that sits on top of the helmet. This piece displays a crest of a red squirrel and black 'lion passant' decorated with gilt fleur-de-lis. The helmet sits a top the heraldic shield again decorated with the 'lion passant' and red squirrel. The drapery features beautifully painted royal blue and white scrolling foliage. Flanking the coat of arms are the letters "V.R." (Victoria Regina), the royal cypher for Queen Victoria, with "Regina" being Latin for Queen. Below, the initials "P.A.L." and the dates 1900-1901 are displayed. The "L" might represent the name Lovell, as research into the crests on the shield revealed a similar theme.

A charming piece that will make an interesting and decorative addition to your home or interior space.
