The Fancy Fox has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
This romantic scene is all wrapped up with a large ribbon tied into a bow above their heads. The box itself has a shaped front and has an embossed frieze of scrolls, cornucopias of fruit and bows running all around. Hallmarked to both cover and base for London 1898, maker Samuel Jacob. The inside of the cover is also stamped with the registered design number Rd 335975.

It measures 9cm (3 1/2") wide by 6.1cm (2 3/8") deep and 3.2cm (1 1/4") high. It weighs a substantial 95g / 3.1ozt.
In excellent condition with no damage, dents or repairs, minor handling wear, the hinge is good and the cover closes flush.
