Collinge Antiques has dated this piece to the 1800s.
Beautiful marquetry inlaid top with a fan and spokes radiating from the centre, tulipwood crossbanded border and the edge strung with box and ebony. Deep mahogany apron with inlaid stringing and conch shell motifs. Raised on tapering square legs, also inlaid at the front. Of superior design and cabinet making, note how the thickness of only the upper table top is visible when the top is closed (usually folding tables have a double thickness), overlapping by a suitable amount at the front but flush at the sides where the hinges are, a particularly elegant solution. Some minor damage to the veneers at the front and a repair to one of the rear legs. Otherwise excellent condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
