LARGE MUSEUM QUALITY CHINESE TANG DYNASTY (618-907) 3-PART PAINTED POTTERY VASE
 
Brief Description:
 
This is a rare, exceptional and unrestored Original Chinese Tang Dynasty Three Part Painted Pottery Buddhist Stupa Jar, Stand, and Cover, dating from the 8th-9th-century AD (circa 618-907).
 
The outstanding example is complete with its original stand and cover, all of which were made from high-fired pottery.
 
The surface of all three sections is cold painted in a base coat of a creamy white pigment with lotus leaf and floral patterns, further complimented by the bright orange and green pigments with a black outlined lid.
 
Each piece retains very good traces of pigment, especially in the main vase.
 
Such Stupa vases from this period have been found in the tombs of Buddhist monks as well as tombs connected to Tang dynasty imperial households.
 
The magnificent piece will look incredible displayed in either an ultra-modern home or a museum, such is the versatility and the style of the vase.
 
Provenance: From the collection of the late Brian Page (1938-2018) who was a well-known Oriental art and antiques dealer from Brighton.

Indeed, it is truly a sight to see and behold, and it is an incredible surviving artefact that dates between 1116 and 1405 years old!
