An early eighteenth century copper engraving of St. Mary-le-Bow Church in Cheapside in the City of London 1739.
This large format old master folio engraving depicts an elevation of Sir Christopher Wren’s famous Baroque church with shops adjoining.
The foreground, a busy street scene with fine carriages and figures of pedestrians and tradesmen about their business in Cheapside.
Engraved by the eminent William Henry Toms (1700-1758) for “Maitland''s History of London” and published in Georgian London in 1739 during the reign of King George II.
A good clean impression printed on a robust hand laid paper with some minor toning to the left margin.
Within a handsome period Hogarth frame with gilt slip.
Both frame and engraving are in first class condition.
