Produced during the First Period or Dr Wall era, eighteenth-century Worcester porcelain represented the height of English soft-paste ceramic production. These handleless teabowls drew inspiration from imported Chinese tea vessels and reflected the luxury of formal tea drinking rituals in Georgian society.

Georgian Worcester teabowls were made using soft-paste porcelain containing soapstone from Cornwall, which made the vessels resistant to thermal shock from boiling water. Decorators applied hand-painted enamel colours and burnt-in gold leaf gilding before a final firing.
