Edwardian Georgian-revival (irish) Turnover Bowl And Stand
£295 $387 €354
This is a large, antique cut glass bowl with turned over rim and separate stand, dating from the early 20th century.
The bowl is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with a century or so of use.
The bowl is cup-shaped measuring 30 cm (12 inches) in diameter at the turned over, circular rim. Bowls with such a rim are normally attributed to Ireland as the country of origin. The rim of the bowl is cut with hobnail diamonds and the main reservoir is cut with finger flutes above prism cuts above a basal band of hobnail diamonds. The base is star-cut. The stand is decorated with hobnail diamonds above a vertically facet-cut stem and a terraced foot with a star-cut base, the spokes of the star reaching to the edge of the base in the Regency style. Blown in clear glass the bowl is 21 cm (8.4 inches) in height, including the stand. Remarkably there are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.
It weighs in at a hefty 1.31 kg. (~ 8 lb. 4 oz.).
