Charming North-west Persian Village Rug, Circa 1900, 2.02m X 1.23m

£2,400    $3,034    €2,881
Dating to around 1900, this is a pretty North-West Persian village rug with charming details. The indigo field with offset rows of botehs and geometric ornaments is complemented by small scattered stylised animals. The composition is beautifully drawn, but, for me, the border makes this rug special. The ivory background is decorated with stylised blossoms, leaves and meandering vines in a manner which is both simple and elegant. Note the corner solutions which confirms that the rural origins of this piece. The border is wide and boldly drawn which complements the field perfectly. All the colours are very subtle and harmonious, and are all derived from natural dyes. This is both a collectible and decorative Persian rug, which has survived the generations in very good condition. Professionally cleaned.
