Size: 3ft 3in x 1ft 6in (100 x 46cm).
Antique Ersari Turkmen torba / mafrash face of small size. Probably by the Ersari of Northern Afghanistan.
Circa 1890.
This small size Ersari torba / mafrash was probably woven as a dowry item and used to decorate the inside of the family yurt. The design is a lattice with large hooked or rams horn devices on a rose madder ground; this design is also found in Turkmen soumak work; mainly by the Yomut. There are yellows and greens also used in the design.
Outstanding condition with very slight even wear. Note the remains of the original tassels along the base.
