Subject portrait of the known Scottish military General Sir James Campbell in half length front view facing the viewer he is wearing his best military dress traditonal red uniform white neck cravat. Wearing his thick curled hair whig. His gaze is so strong fixed at the viewer he has full lips, rosy cheek complexion, clean shaven, with such strong masculine facial features. His eyes gaze is exceptional they seem to follow you as you move.

Artist biography William Aikman (24 October 1682 – 7 June 1731) a known Scottish old master artist. His paintings can be found in the National Galleries of Scotland. His paintings have been exhibited at galleries & sold at auction houses around the world. The current highest sold price is $104184 US dollars which was for the portrait of John 2nd Duke of Argyll & 1st Duke of Greenwich. He was known to have been the son also the heir of an Angus Laird. He sold his entire possessions along with his land & property so that he could learn his trade as an artist.
 
He studied with Sir John de Medina in Edinburgh, then he went to London in around 1704 where he joined an art academy, he later then travelled to Italy to witness the culture & art first hand & also went to Turkey to increase his artistic knowledge.
