Subject portrait of the known Scottish military General Sir James Campbell in half length front view facing the viewer he is wearing his best military dress traditonal red uniform white neck cravat. Wearing his thick curled hair whig. His gaze is so strong fixed at the viewer he has full lips, rosy cheek complexion, clean shaven, with such strong masculine facial features. His eyes gaze is exceptional they seem to follow you as you move.

Artist biography William Aikman (24 October 1682 – 7 June 1731) a known Scottish old master artist. His paintings can be found in the National Galleries of Scotland. His paintings have been exhibited at galleries & sold at auction houses around the world. The current highest sold price is $104184 US dollars which was for the portrait of John 2nd Duke of Argyll & 1st Duke of Greenwich. He was known to have been the son also the heir of an Angus Laird. He sold his entire possessions along with his land & property so that he could learn his trade as an artist.
He studied with Sir John de Medina in Edinburgh, then he went to London in around 1704 where he joined an art academy, he later then travelled to Italy to witness the culture & art first hand & also went to Turkey to increase his artistic knowledge. He adored the history of art especially during the middle ages. Aikman returned to Edinburgh in Scotland approximately in the year 1711, which is when the artist Medina sadly passed away, he soon became the main portrait artist in Scotland. He later moved permanently south to London to gain his own notoriety, he had many patrons by high society.
Biography of Lieutenant-General Sir James Campbell (C1680 – 11 May 1745) was a Scottish military officer and Whig politician who sat in the British House of Commons from 1727 to 1741, representing the constituency of Ayrshire. A distinguished cavalry officer, Campbell began his military career at a young age and fought in several conflicts of the Second Hundred Years'' War, along with serving as the governor of Edinburgh Castle from 1738 until his death in 1745. Born in Lawers, Perthshire into an aristocratic Scottish family, Campbell joined the Scots Army when he was just thirteen years old. He was commissioned as a captain in the 2st Regiment of Foot in 1702 During the War of the Spanish Succession, Campbell served in Europe in the Royal North British Dragoons, fighting in the battles of Blenheim, Oudenarde and Malplaquet and rising to the rank of lieutenant-colonel.
Following the war''s end, Campbell became involved in politics, supporting the succession of the House of Hanover. In 1720, Campbell married Lady Jean Boyle Mure, with whom he had two children. Seven years later, Campbell was appointed Groom of the Chamber by George II of Great Britain in recognition of his military accomplishments. Campbell took his seat in Parliament after running unopposed in the 1727 British general election. A steadfast Whig when in Parliament, Campbell continued to climb the British Army''s ranks, being promoted to lieutenant-general in 1740. In 1742, the War of the Austrian Succession broke out and Campbell accompanied a British force to Continental Europe, where he participated in the Battle of Dettingen and was knighted.
