Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the seventeenth century, Dutch cartographers such as Jan Janssonius and Willem Blaeu led the European mapmaking industry. They produced detailed copperplate engravings depicting English counties, adorned with elaborate cartouches, heraldic coats of arms, and regional topography.

Historic maps were typically printed using copperplate engraving techniques onto handmade rag paper with visible watermarks. The printed line work was often enhanced by hand using watercolour pigments to highlight boundaries, armorial bearings, and decorative elements.

Authentic period maps exhibit a distinct plate indent along the image margin, chain lines within the paper structure, and central folds if originally bound in an atlas. Original hand colouring often shows natural age toning, while the reverse side may feature contemporary Latin or Dutch text.

Framed cartographic prints work well positioned above a sideboard, desk, or mantlepiece in traditional studies, libraries, or entry halls. Pairing historical maps with clean-lined modern furniture creates an engaging visual contrast between historic detail and minimalist interiors.

To prevent fading and paper degradation, display maps away from direct sunlight and high humidity areas. Ensure the artwork is mounted using acid-free materials and protected behind UV-filtering glass to guard against light exposure and atmospheric staining.
