Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Royal Lancastrian pottery was manufactured by Pilkingtons Tile and Pottery Company in Lancashire, England, during the early to mid-20th century. The pottery is renowned for its experimental glaze effects, including lustre, mottled, and crystalline finishes designed by leading artists of the Arts and Crafts and Art Deco eras.

These ceramic vessels were typically slip-cast or hand-thrown using refined white earthenware or stoneware bodies. They were finished with specialized metallic, matte, or mottled glazes formulated by chemically skilled ceramicists to achieve deep surface texture and colour.

Authentic pieces feature impressed maker marks on the base, such as the Pilkington royal mark with a crowned P and a rose motif, or the wording Royal Lancastrian. Model numbers, artist monograms, and distinctive glaze codes are also commonly stamped into the clay.

Saturated blue ceramic vessels provide strong visual accents when placed against neutral painted backdrops or atop dark wood furniture, such as mahogany sideboards. Displaying them as a pair enhances symmetry on a mantelpiece or console table.

Dust glazed ceramics regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth. Wash gently by hand using lukewarm water and mild dish soap if necessary, avoiding harsh abrasive pads or sudden temperature changes that could induce surface crazing.
