Antique Vienna style porcelain vase of moulded two-handled baluster body. Painted in the Rothschild pattern with birds perched on tree branches and accented with insects and flowers in vivid polychrome enamelling. The base, rim and handles are trimmed with gilded edges.
Marked with the Royal Vienna bindenschild beehive mark. The mark was used by several prominent porcelain makers in the second half of the 19th century, including Franz Dorfl, Ackermann & Fritze, Carl Knoll and Carolus Magnus Hutschenreuther.
The ''Rothschild pattern'' is so called after a Herend porcelain design of garden birds from the 1850''s. The Rothschilds were important patrons of the Herend Porcelain Manufactory and loved the bird décor so much that in 1861, the design was named in their honour. This simple, yet enchanting pattern was then copied by most European porcelain manufacturers.
