George V Silver Christening Mug Tankard London 1912

1900 - 1920
Description

A George V era silver christening mug or tankard with clear hallmarks for London 1912 (the start of the reign) and makers mark for Stuart Clifford. This is a piece of superb quality having strong lines of design and a very good gauge of silver - it weighs 240gr - which can be seen in the thickness of the rim. The tankard stands on a footed stepped base, has a splendid scrolled handle in the Georgian style and the bowl has a very restrained but effective baluster shape (it slants in slightly from the lower part of the bowl and outwards again just below the rim), which gives it a modern feel for the time it was made. In exceptionally good condition, with no dents or dinks.
