French 8 Day Chinoiserie Decorated Time Piece

1920 - 1940
Description

French 1940s 8 day Chinoiserie Lacquered time piece by Duverdrey & Bloquel, retailed by Bayard. Ornately decorated casework with gilt brass bezel with convex glass over a silvered dial with black hours and hands. Signed and numbered French brass, spring driven, unadjusted 2 jewel lever movement with captive winding key.

Dimensions: Height - 5", Width - 7.5", Depth - 3".

In 1867 Albert Villion established his company in France making complete clocks of which 'pendules de voyage' formed a large part. Paul Duverdrey joined the firm in 1887.

In 1910, following Villions death Villion was formed a partnership with Joseph Bloquel and the firm continued under the name Duverdrey & Bloquel using the lion trademark until 1939.

After 1939 the company changed the name and trademark to 'Bayard'.
