William IV Rosewood Sewing Box - Mother of Pearl Inlay - Birds - 1830

19th century
Sold by Puckerings
Description

A wonderful antique English sewing box, William IV in period, dating to around 1830. Made from exotic (and expensive) Rosewood, the box is decorated with charming carved Mother of Pearl inlays, most incorporating a bird motif. These are interspersed with pewter stringing with the original untouched patina.

The edges are all finished with carved wood beading and each side retain the original ring handles, the box also stands on it's four original turned bun feet.

The interior is just beautiful in a wonderful canary yellow, finished in paper and silk and the tray trimmed in cut steel. The interior came with plethora of bits and pieces which I will include with the sale.

The interior of the lid also retains it's original compartment which would have been used to store letter and papers.

Excellent original condition, measuring 11" x 8" x 5 1/2" tall.
