Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 19th and early 20th centuries, glass display domes were designed to protect delicate items such as taxidermy, clockwork mechanisms, wax flowers, and natural history specimens from dust and environmental damage. They served as central decorative features in cabinet of curiosities displays and formal drawing rooms.

Traditional display cloches feature hand-blown lead or soda-lime glass mounted onto turned timber bases, often crafted from ebonised pine, mahogany, or walnut. The base interior typically includes a fitted channel covered in velvet, felt, or baize to create a cushioned seal.

Authentic antique glass domes often feature slight imperfections such as air bubbles, subtle ripples, or varying thickness from hand-blowing processes. Additionally, original ebonised bases usually display age-appropriate wear, hand-turned tool marks on the underside, and authentic patination.

An antique glass cloche can be styled on a sideboard, bookshelf, or mantelpiece to enclose sculptural objects, dried botanicals, vintage watch movements, or ceramic art. Placing it within a contemporary setting creates a striking visual focal point through historical contrast.

Glass domes should be cleaned using a soft microfibre cloth and a gentle glass cleaner applied directly to the cloth rather than the glass. Avoid soaking or applying liquid cleaners to the wooden base or original interior fabric lining to prevent warping, staining, or finish deterioration.
