Mytton Antiques - Jerrard Nares has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
With a rectangular hinged top, the top painted with a lakeside scene, as a couple meet and a fisherman sits on the bank, and a woman checks her nets, all against a romantic background of a ruined castle above sailing ships. The scene within classical Roman banding, and line decoration repeated to all sides of the box.
Spa Boxes were made for visitors to the spa towns of Europe in the 19th Century.
