Victorian Aesthetic Movement Burr Thuya & Ebony Parcel Gilt Ladies Writing Side Table
£1,480 $1,963 €1,758
Outstanding Victorian Aesthetic Movement Thuya & Ebony Ladies Writing Table.
An incredibly rare and wonderfully ornate piece.
We are delighted to bring to you this truly fantastic and very rare English Victorian Aesthetic Movement Ladies writing side table made around C1880. This stunning table has been sympathetically restored by ourselves in our workshop to the upmost standard. The tables top unusually features the most beautiful burr Thuya wood which is contrasted by its Ebony frame embellished with a gold carved reflief and Boxwood Inlays. The table conceals a fully fitted interior below its beautiful top which unlocks via its original lock and ornate brass escutcheon, allowing the top to lift up. Lifting the top to reveals its original royal blue gold tooled writing desk leather in fantastic condition which can be used flat or lifted to an angle for reading or writing. Beside the writing surface are organised compartments for stationary and ink pots complete with its original silver topped glass ink pot.
The table also features a lovely slim dovetail constructed drawer in the frieze which is framed by burr Thuya with Ebony and gold relief swags and tail carvings to the centre, mimicing the top. The drawer is complete with both of its original brass polished dropper handles either side with its hidden original brass lock in the centre. Both of the tables locks are original and work with the same period key. To the underside of the drawer is a lovely secondary slide out writing surface with a royal blue felt covering for referencing. Flanking the drawer either side, the table shows more Thuya burr in the frieze with carved gold relief embellishments which follow into the side panels.
The table stands on an Ebonised turned gallery base in the Aesthetic style which is complemented by its simple gold accents on the legs. The table culminates to its original working polished brass castors on black porcelain wheels, making the desk easy to move around.
...This stunning collectors piece is truly a wonder to behold and is complete with its highly glazed French polished finish which we have carefully waxed, making this table ready to shine in any home.
There is no movement or play in any of the joints and the top is flat with no bowing or twisting.
