In 1860, John Mappin founded Mappin & Company in London, later becoming Mappin, Webb & Co. In 1862, the first store opened on Oxford Street, London, offering silverware, candelabras, and vanity products. The company expanded to jewelry design and acquired Mappin Brothers in 1903.
