A late 18th century Derby porcelain figure group of the Tithe Pig trio of the vicar come to collect the ''tithe'' to find the farmer and his wife trying to offer up their baby as payment instead of the piglet. Stood in front of a bocage on a shallow oval base with another piglet, sheaf of wheat and basket of eggs. Incised 293 to the base, c.1790.
It measures 15.8cm (6 1/4'') high, 13cm (5 1/8'') wide and 8.3cm (3 1/4'') deep.
In very good condition for such a complicated arrangement with just a few minor points to note: The farmers right wrist has been repaired and the surface touching up is a bit yellowed over the hand but there doesn''t appear to be any fabrication/restoration. His staff has been restored below his left hand and the same applies as before with the colour touching up around the hand but the porcelain appears fine. The wife is missing her left thumb, the handle of the egg basket is also missing and there is some restoration to the brim of the vicar''s hat. Some minor paint losses to the black enamel and a few small paint losses to the black and maroon enamel have been carefully retouched. Minor handling wear otherwise and the bocage appears to be in a lot better condition than most.
