Silver Urn Shaped Seal Ring Box - Circa 1800

18th century
Description

A most unusual silver (not marked) urn shaped oval box most likely for a ring/seal. Probably continental in origin. The hinged top of the box looks very like the top of a fob seal which leads us to believe that it may have contained either a seal or a seal ring. Attractive decoration on the body and rope rings to either side so it could be hung from watch chain or a chatelaine.
