Time Recorder Fusee Wall Clock, Clocking In, Gledhill Brook

1920 - 1940
For Sale by Clockwise
Description

Clockwise is delighted to present a fine eight day fusee time recorder or clocking-in clock, having just enjoyed full and sympathetic restorations performed to the case, dial and movement. Dating from 1941 and in lovely condition the oak case has a lovely patina and the front door retains its working lock and key. The brass fittings are in excellent condition and the very good dial lacks the aggressive scratching or paint loss found on so many poorer examples.

I have constructed a removeable base to allow the clock to stand securely on the floor but the two locating holes and upper bracket for wall-hanging remain.

The company history is listed in the photos and all the correct numbers are in place on the dial, case and movement so this is a genuine and authentic piece.

The four pillar eight day anchor escapement fusee movement has been fully refurbished and the clock benefits from my three year guarantee.

This clock really is a beautiful and gently imposing piece of furniture and delivery and set-up is available.

Clockwise specialises in longcase and bracket clocks and with clients from the world of business, film, sport, royalty and aristocracy - yet more than happy with traditional clients - Clockwise has an unrivalled reputation for excellence and superb service.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Time recorder clocks emerged during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to standardise working hours in industrial factories and commercial offices. Manufacturers like Gledhill-Brook produced robust mechanical clocks equipped with card-punching mechanisms, allowing employers to track shift start and finish times accurately.

Industrial time recorders were housed in heavy solid oak or mahogany cases designed to withstand harsh factory environments. Internal movements featured brass plates, steel gears, cast pendulum bobs, and glass front panels to inspect the mechanism.

Authentic pieces feature original makers plates on the dial or lower casing, clear patent numbers, heavy brass shift levers, and internal punch mechanisms rather than standard clockwork alone. Serial numbers stamped into the timber case and dial backplates further confirm age and origin.

A vertical time recorder clock serves as a strong architectural focal point when mounted on narrow wall spaces, hallways, or study interiors. It pairs well with exposed brickwork, contemporary minimalist furniture, or dark timber panelling.

Dust the timber case regularly with a microfibre cloth and apply clear beeswax polish occasionally to nourish the oak. Mechanical movements require periodic servicing by a professional horologist, and winding should be conducted smoothly using the correct key to prevent mainspring stress.
