Size: 12ft 7in x 9ft 10in (330 x 298cm).Antique Afghan Turkmen carpet with traditional Tekke Turkmen gul design.Circa 1900.The carpet has eight vertical rows of Tekke Turkmen style guls; this design of carpet was woven by the settled Turkmen people in the Andkhoy region of northern Afghanistan; the design is mainly associated with the villages of Daulatabad to the south and a number of smaller villages along the road to Mazar-i-Sharif. The carpet is of a very pleasing clear bright madder red colour with the design in indigo blue, ivory and burnt orange. Note the elem panels at each end in traditional Turkmen design.
